Joscelynn Barbee is a member of the DanceLova Dance Academy faculty.
This local ballerina is everything but local, training nationwide pursuing perfection in ballet and dance education. She is currently elevating her craft with a Master’s degree in dance education.
Joscelynn started her training at a local studio in many dance styles; ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, leaps and turns, acro jazz, and musical theater. At the age of 9, Joscelynn was a part of a local nonprofit ballet organization, Whittier Youth Ballet.
She performed many times with this group and had master classes with Melissa Sandvig, Mecca Vazie Andrews, David Barocio, Sara Jane Crespo, and Josh Romero. This is where she learned the Cecchetti technique and tested in grades two through nine.
She then moved to Seattle, Washington where she trained with Pacific Northwest Ballet under teachers such as; Peter Boal, Abbie Seigel, Dana Hanson, and Nancy Crowley, for her ballet training and Eva Stone for modern. Joscelynn has also performed with the professional ballet company in the productions of Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Le Corsaire. Here she trained in the Balanchine technique under a rigorous curriculum.
Joscelynn has been to many summer intensives, training at some of the country’s most prestigious ballet schools, including The School of American Ballet (New York City Ballet) under Katrina Killian, Kay Mazzo, Susan Pilarre, and Suki Schorer, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the ‘Original Joffrey’ Chicago, American Ballet Theater, and Oregon Ballet Theater.
Currently, Joscelynn is enrolled in college courses in pursuit of her Master’s degree in Dance Education and getting her Dance Teacher’s Certificate at Orange Coast College.
