Before your first live dance class online…
Please spend a bit of time to prepare a few important things. If you’re already scheduled for an upcoming dance class, this is the perfect time to get these things set up first.
You’ll be glad you did these 4 steps in advance…
Click on each of the steps below to view setup instructions:
If this will be your first time using Zoom, you will need to download and install Zoom.
If using a desktop or laptop computer:
If using a mobile tablet or smartphone device:
Alternatively, if for any reason you need to use a mobile device instead, you can click on the appropriate icon for your type of device below:
Because your dance classroom will temporarily be a room in your home (or other location you have chosen), it’s important that you find a dedicated space that meet the following:
- Quiet and away from sound distractions. There will be others on this live, interactive class meeting on Zoom. Any background noises, talking, or music coming from each participant’s home will be heard by everyone during class.
- A reasonable level of freedom to move — Allow yourself at least 3 feet of space on all sides of your body. That’s in front of you, behind you, as well as to the left and right sides of your body.
- No obstructions. Make sure it’s all clear near the space you’ve chosen. You will be moving/stretching your arms and legs around a bit. If there are home objects that are hard, sharp, or breakable nearby, please temporarily move them as far away from you as possible.
Note for ballet class only:
Please make sure you have something secure to hold onto on one side. The side of a counter top, the back of a heavy/stable chair or sofa, etc. will serve as your temporary ballet barre. - Not slippery. For example, your kitchen cooking or sink area is not an ideal place for dance movement during class. Your floor may be carpet, hardwood, or tile. Make sure you are aware of your new floor surface and take precaution.
- Access to a visible screen that can connect to online to Zoom, i.e., a desktop, laptop, or tablet screen.
TIP!
For you fancy tech-saavy folks that are really bored at home during this stay-at-home period, you may be even able to connect Zoom to a larger TV screen using an HDMI cable from your computer, or even “mirroring” via Bluetooth from your device, etc. Just please make sure it works for you during class time.
Teachers will need to see you in your proper and full class attire. There’s no difference from being at your usual DanceLova in-person class.
- Ballet – Dancers must be in the usual full ballet attire (i.e., hair in a bun, leotard, tights, and ballet shoes)
- Hip Hop – Wear clothing that is comfortable to move in. Your usual outfit for hip hop class would be great, including your sneakers.
- All other styles – Make sure to wear what you normally do to your dance class. Make sure comfortable to move in. Hair, in a bun or ponytail. Wear half-soles, jazz shoes, or barefoot if the floor is safe for that.
- Do: Be mindful of others. There will be others on this live, interactive class meeting on Zoom. Any background noises, conversations, or TV sound/music coming from each participant’s home will likely be heard by everyone during class.
- Do: Participate and ask questions. Participants will start muted mode during the class. If you have question you can un-mute yourself to interact, if the time is appropriate for it. If you’re not sure, click on the “Raise Hand” icon to ask a question to the teacher instead. The teacher will try to answer it if/when there is an opportunity for it.
- Do: Keep in mind that the teacher is handling multiple things at the same time to run these Zoom meetings remotely via a computer.
Dancers 8 years old and younger are REQUIRED to have adult supervision during the entire duration of class sessions.
