Kate Coogan joined the DanceLova Dance Academy faculty in May 2013. The graceful soloist, principal dancer of Long Beach Ballet, and experienced Ballet instructor is adding yet even more vigor to the dance academy’s spirit of excellence. Her focus lies on instructing students in proper technique, encouraging, and aiding adults and children in finding joy through the art of dance.
Kate has been teaching ballet in Southern California for over 10 years. She began her training at Long Beach Ballet under David Wilcox. She attended the San Francisco Ballet School summer intensive on scholarship and the following summer, Houston Ballet Academy’s summer intensive on full scholarship.
She performed soloist and principal roles with Long Beach Ballet Theater, traveling along the West Coast. Kate danced in the Glory of Christmas for 7 consecutive seasons, and performed the role of principal dancer the last four. She also danced soloist roles in four seasons of The Glory of Easter. Kate was fortunate enough to perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy with Dance West in their production of The Nutcracker. Later that year she danced the role of “Odette” in Swan Lake, with Long Beach Ballet.
Kate’s passion now lies in teaching; helping her Dance Gym’s adult students improve their technique and discover joy through Ballet at DanceLova. She continues to perform with His Grace Dance Ministry. Kate also has an amazing husband and two young daughters, Presley, and Hadley.
